Burr Yacht Sales, Fleming East Coast Dealer Host Another Magnificent Rendezvous
In early September, Burr Yacht Sales, hosted a four-day rendezvous for Fleming owners. The event took place at their facility in Edgewater, Maryland which was temporarily transformed into an events venue to accommodate the 120+ guests and owners most of whom had arrived in their boats and moored on site.
Kicking off the event was a revealing of Burr's newest acquisition, a marina in Stuart, Florida that will complement the north location to include sales, service, and refit projects. Currently under construction, this new expansion will be capable of hosting over a dozen Flemings with an eagerly anticipated opening date in early 2018.
Throughout the weekend, attendees of the Rendezvous were treated to a variety of technical demos and seminars. Topics ranged from safety and preparedness to maintenance of current onboard systems and even a bit about what to expect in the future from Fleming. A few kind owners also gave presentations, sharing their experiences and offering advice to encourage exploration. The trip locales ranged from the Caribbean, Hudson River, and an extended two-month diving expedition on the south side of Cuba.
Gourmet meals and cocktail hours filled in the areas in-between and provided a lively social environment for Fleming owners to meet and mingle. On Sunday morning, close to 30 Fleming embarked on a cruise around Thomas Point Lighthouse where the line of Flemings nearly extended further than the eye could see.
The Fleming 58 made its debut at the Sydney International Boat show August 3 - 7, 2017 Cockle Bay Marina in Darling Harbour
Scandinavian Dealer, Marstrand Yachts, Host Another Magnificent Rendezvous
This year's Scandinavian rendezvous began in the beautiful island of Marstrand, just north of Gothenburg Sweden, from June 27-30. The evenings are long in mid-summer so the flag lowering ceremony, accompanied by a trumpeter, was post-dinner at 10:30pm. The following day guests set off through the Swedish archipelago to the town of Ellos where they were given a factory tour of the iconic sailboat manufacturer Hallberg Rassy (Mr Rassy owner of a Fleming 55). On the third day guests cruised further north to the town of Smogen famous for its seafood. Local fare was made the most of by tucking into mountains of shrimp, crab and langoustine washed down with plenty of Aqvavit and followed by raucous singing like only the Vikings can do. A lovely time, expertly planned and run by the Marstrand Yachts team and made better with great weather and wonderful people. See more at www.facebook.com/flemingyachts/
Fleming Yachts 30th Anniversary Party
Fleming Yachts hosted a 30th anniversary party at the Marriot Harbor Beach Resort during the recent Ft. Lauderdale boat show. Over 200 guests attended from all over the world. It was a real pleasure to meet so many Fleming owners, dealers and suppliers and to share stories. Also in attendance was Mio the amazing magician, a Caribbean steel band and a trio of fantastic Flamenco guitarists and dancer. Tony was available for book signings of his memoir "Riding the Tide." The food was sensational, even if the weather was not. Thank you to all who attended. We, at Fleming, left with a real sense of family and were genuinely moved to be part of a group of really wonderful people.

World No.1 Laser sailor, Tom Burton, gets his chance to go for gold at the Rio Olympic Games later this year.
March 2016 - Sponsored by Fleming Yachts, Tom achieved another career milestone as his selection to the 2016 Australian Olympic Team for Rio has just been announced.
This latest achievement represents the culmination of many years Laser sailing & comes after a very closely fought 2015 season & a tough selection process for the one Laser spot in the Rio team.
Tom commented, "The battle to get this spot was of the highest standard. At the moment Australia are ranked one & two in the Laser world, so to win the honour of representing your country is a dream come true & the thought of bringing home a medal will drive me to train & compete even harder. I'd like to thank all my supporters & sponsors for their help & assure them that I'll definitely be going for gold in Rio!"
Burton has a good feel for what the atmosphere of the Games will be like. "I've been to Rio five or so times now. It's got some awesome weather. I have no doubt the city will turn the atmosphere on come Games time and it will be a sight to see.
Duncan Cowie, from the company, said, "We were confident that Tom would continue his winning ways & now that he's got his chance to shine on the World's greatest sporting stage, all of us wish him good luck & fair winds in Rio."
The Company will be closely following Tom's progress and plan to post news of his lead-up to Augusts' Rio Olympic Games in their regular Newsletters.

Tom Burton wins his 5th title in the Australian Nationals
World's number one ranked Laser sailor Tom Burton wrapped up the Australian Laser Standard Championship with a win in Race 9 held late in the day on Sunday after hours of delay due to unstable winds. With wind all along the coast for some reason Lake Macquarie was left in limbo and only at 1630 when a 10 knot SE came up was R.O. Ross Wilson able to send the fleets out and to complete one of the two scheduled races.
Fleming Yachts back a winner in young Aussie sailor Tom Burton.
December 2015 - Fleming Yachts announce their sponsorship of rising star sailor Tom Burton. The 25 yr old from NSW is currently ranked world No 1 in the men's Laser class and last month underlined his credentials by winning the World Cup final in Abu Dhabi against a full-strength Laser class field. Commenting on the new partnership, Duncan Cowie, from the company, said "With many Fleming customers being yachting enthusiasts and past sailing boat owners, it's entirely fitting that we should encourage sailing in general and young sailors, like Tom, in particular."
As he begins to compete in a series of events leading up to and hopefully including the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, Tom adds, " It's really great to have a new partner to help on the journey to my next major goal, the 2016 Olympics, especially a partner already widely respected in the yachting & boating world. We are sort of in the same boat, Fleming and I, both striving to be the best. Fleming Yachts are continually working to improve their already amazing line-up of motor yachts & likewise, I'm determined to build on my current successes & become the best in my field."
Fleming Yachts are well represented in Tom's native Australia, having a busy sales and service centre at Kirribilli, in the shadow of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Managers Egil Paulsen and Sam Nicholas recently welcomed Tom to their facility and commented, "We're delighted to be helping Tom represent his country & continue his rise to the top of his sport."
The Company will be closely following Tom's progress and plan to post news of his training, races and results in their regular Newsletters.
New Fleming 78
A brand new Fleming 78 will be exhibited at the 2015 Southampton International Boat show in September. This is the first time a Fleming 78 has been exhibited in Europe. The new model incorporates many upgrades and options, most notably a redesigned flybridge. The largest of the Fleming line, the 78 highlights the exclusivity and uncompromising attention to detail synonymous with the brand.
Fleming Meet at Kalvåg, Norway
Initiated by local Harald Osland and Anne-Lise Lavik, Owners of 55-120 a Fleming Meet at Kalvaag, Norway was arranged for the weekend of 13/14 June 2015.
Kalvaag is a small fishing village on Norway's west coast at 61º 45.93' North, 461º 52.58' East. A picturesque natural harbour, still active with a very large fishing trawler discharging some 1500 tons of herring while we were there.
Five Flemings took part, all from Norway, two brand new 58's: 58-006 "Amadora" and 58-007 "Pegasus V" and three 55s: 55-218 "Sito", 55-120 "Tjalk" and 55-026 "Ozmaiden". In addition Australian Owners of 55-194 travelled to Norway with two good friends to take part in a chartered sailing boat from Bergen. Most admirable and sporty, sailing conditions turned out to being somewhat different from the more balmy Australian climes. Two of the Flemings travelled over 500 n.miles to get to Kalvaag. With another 500 miles to get home! Peter Johansson of Marstrand Yachts, the Scandinavian Fleming dealer was there with his off-sider Christian offering friendly service and advice as always. The weather was a bit of a challenge, but we did see the sun on occasion. The scenery of the west coast is spectacular, always worth a visit and although it was cool to cold, at least the winds were gentle and we had a really good time in very good company! Excellent food and drinks with no shortage of either! Duncan would have loved it!
We are all very grateful to Harald and Anne-Lise for the initiative and the arrangements. "Sito" and "Amadora" has suggested they will arrange a meet next year at the end of June in the area around Stavanger which promises to be equally good! Surely something both to look forward to and to aspire to!

2014 AIM Marine Group Editor's Choice
Fleming Yachts are proud to announce that the all-new Fleming 58 was awarded "Best Passagemaker in 50-59 ft class" at the 2014 AIM Marine Group Editor's Choice event held on October 31st at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.
The winners of the awards were selected by the editors of the AIM Marine Group magazines with, to quote AIM group publisher, Gary DeSanctis, the intent of selecting examples of "true groundbreaking innovation that are well executed".
This award validates our decision to use the recent downturn as an opportunity to demonstrate our confidence in the future and develop an entirely new design, based on the Fleming tradition, intended to fill the gap between the legendary 55 and the newer, but equally successful, Fleming 65.
Feedback from our dealers and customers was solicited in the early stages of the design process and the new boat reflects the input gained from these discussions including the option for a full width central stateroom and a spacious engine-room with increased headroom.
The Fleming 58 also incorporates the very latest technology especially in her electrical, steering and shaft drive systems - all designed to make life easier for the boat user. The full list of additional features too numerous to mention here but, as with all Flemings, the number of items included as standard equipment is exceptional - with most being to a much higher specification than is the norm.
The 58 retains the timeless look and established safety features of the Fleming brand - such as the ability to board and disembark from wide side decks along both sides of the boat.
At the time of writing, we have received firm orders for fifteen 58's proving she is a worthy addition to the fleet and a demonstration that discerning buyers share the opinion of the AIM judges.
Mandurah Boat Show 2014
Fleming Yachts Australia had Fleming 55 hull #194 on display at Mandurah Boat show, which was the third consecutive year to display a Fleming at the show. The weather was kind to us for the duration with the sun shining. Attendance was a little down from the previous years, but our visitors were very impressed with the boat. We were happy to have both Duncan Cowie and Adi Shard with us for the duration of the show, during which we again received numerous comments that the Fleming was the best boat in the show!
Sydney International Boat Show
Sydney Boat show was held for the first time in two locations due to the closure of the Exhibition Centre which is being re-developed, with the on-water display staying at Cockle Bay. Fleming Yachts Australia had the latest Fleming 55 on display hull #233. We had the choice location in the show, the sun was out and we felt there to be a lot more confidence in the market. Visitors were very impressed with the latest upgrades and high standard of build of the Fleming.
Burr Yacht Sales Rendezvous
Burr Yacht Sales organized another magnificent rendezvous in September - their fourth since 2001. As expected the event was casual yet meticulously organized. All participants were invited to the impressive Burr Yacht Sales marina with 48 boats in attendance and 65 hulls represented. Alban Caterpillar hosted a delicious cookout. Thank you Alban! Cummins and MAN continue to be our most loyal sponsors of the event and this year were joined by many others. Seminars were presented by Nobeltec, Furuno, AB Inflatables and Power Service Diesel Fuel Additives. There was even a cooking presentation! The Fleming 58 made her debut. Adi Shard answered questions sharing the process of development, and Tony Fleming showed his latest video of travels aboard Venture in Alaska. After four days of sumptuous lunches and dinners, quality entertainment, informative presentations and meeting both old and new friends, the event came to a close on Sunday September 8th, 2013 with an aerial photo shoot at Thomas Point Lighthouse in Annapolis, Maryland.
Fleming Yachts are proud of our association with Burr Yachts Sales and look forward to the next opportunity to meet our customers, explore their boats and share their adventures.Archived News
